The unprecedented, tragic events that occurred as of late have left us deeply saddened and pensive. Many came face-to-face with extreme grief and loss of life, being suddenly plunged into sadness and despair. It’s easy and very natural to feel anger and negative emotions in the face of such calamity. What’s important, though, is that we remain calm and collected, showing the situation and the people the respect and solidarity they deserve. Through the mists of uncertainty, there is a silver lining. It’s extremely encouraging that these events were met with global solidarity, which activated our collective consciousness, something worth recognising. It also serves as a stark reminder that no matter where we are from, or how far we think we have come in life, we owe it to ourselves to be humble, compassionate, and altruistic.
Because it’s extremely easy to get bogged down with all our petty issues instead of focusing on the large ones which define our very existence. By taking one step back, we start to see life’s bigger picture. Only then we can re-evaluate our everyday life, the challenges we face and the priorities we believe to be the most paramount. By giving ourselves some necessary breathing space, we can allow that space to be filled with empathy and solidarity, gratitude and humility. We suddenly find ourselves with the time to appreciate what life has so generously given us. These four words are the cornerstones of a happy life; by embracing them, we can find balance and harmony within ourselves and the world around us. There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.
Because it’s easy to get caught up with the small things. To wake up every day in fear and dread of what’s to come. Not everything needs our full emotional attention though. Every now and again, we need a reminder of what’s important. Our time on this planet is limited as is and recent events should act like a wake-up call. We need to remember that life is a precious gift. So, why waste precious time chasing shadows when we can fully embrace love and affection?
